Description

Head North out of Phnom Penh towards Stung Treng. Here you can kayak out to a pod of rare Irrawaddy dolphins near the Laos border, passing islands, waterfalls and bird infested wetlands along the way. Sightings of dolphins are practically guaranteed here while sighting of tourist are rare. In Ramsar wetlands there are dozens of islands, a rich a array of bird life and various rapids and waterfalls cascading down from Laos, this is definitely one of Mekong River’s wildest and most beautiful stretches. Board the 2 deck cruise boat and leisurely cruise down the river. Have chance to cycle through smaller islands visiting the communities and farms along the way.

Itinerary

Day 1: Phnom Penh – Kratie – Stung Treng (-/-/-)
Depart Phnom Penh by private car directly to Stung Treng. We’ll stop for lunch along the way in Kratie, a thriving travel hub with a variety of food to eat. Overnight in a nature lodge with a private balcony overlooking the river located outside of town.

Day 2: Stung Treng – O Sway – Stung Treng (B/L/-)
Travel North along the Mekong River to the village of O Sway near the Lao border and begin a full day kayaking trip down the river through remote flooded forests of Cambodia’s amazing Ramsar Wetland. A motorised boat will provide support and back-up. Many varieties of birds live in these forests. We’ll stop for a picnic lunch in one of the small islands. At the end of the day we return to our Stung Treng accommodations.

Day 3: Stung Treng - Kratie (B/L/-)
Leave Stung Treng on bicycle and cycle along the scenic river route, passing through villages and having the opportunity to visit temples and schools along the way. After cycling about 25km on the lovely scenic river route, we board our kayaks and paddle down river. Stopping on the sandy islands and watching the rare Mekong river dolphins. After lunch at a deep dolphin pool, transfer by car to Kratie, arriving in time to watch the beautiful sunset over the Mekong. Overnight at a riverside hotel.

Day 4: Kratie – Phnom Penh (B/L/D)
Transfer by car to the Mekong River south of Kompong Cham and board a 2 deck cruise boat for a leisurely cruise down river and through the Silk Islands. Enjoy a picnic and swim at a sandy beach on the tip of the Northern-most island and make numerous excursions on the islands including visits to an island Pagoda, local silk weaving communities, farms, villages and schools. We will cycle across a small island meeting the boat on the other side and then continue the cruise into Phnom Penh enjoying the great views of the river life, fishing practices, a floating village, the four rivers region and Phnom Penh. Watch the sunset over the river while enjoying a BBQ dinner and drinks on board before arriving in Phnom Penh.
